ISO Management Systems

What is ISO?

International Organization for Standardization

ISO is an independent, international organization with a membership of 165 national standards bodies.

Its membership brings together experts to share knowledge and develop voluntary, consensus-based, market relevant International Standards that support innovation and provide solutions to global challenges.

They provide internationally agreed upon formulas for the best way of doing something, whether it be constructing, fabricating, manufacturing, delivering or servicing. It is the distilled wisdom of people with expertise in their subject matter.

ISO 45001 helps reduce accidents in the workplace, sets the standards for occupational health and safety, and audits your health and safety management system for conformity against the standard.

ISO 9001 helps reduce product failures and defects, sets the standards for quality, and audits your quality management system for conformity against the standard.

ISO 14001 helps reduce environmental impacts and waste, become more sustainable,  sets the standards for environmental waste and carbon footprint, and audits your environmental management system for conformity against the standard.

Alternative to COR

ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety

Many contracts that stipulate COR as a bid requirement will also accept an internationally recognized health and safety certification. ISO 45001 is the international equivalent of Canada’s COR program.

While both programs have the same requirements, the application and how you’re graded and is different. If your owners are asking for COR and they’ll accept an international equivalent, this may be a better path for you.
